Saarland University Hospital New Building Clinic for Internal Medicine 2nd Construction Phase Building Lecture Halls educational The most elaborate and ambitious construction site in the Saarland is currently located in the Homburg Forest Its inte rior is complex with its patient rooms laboratories lecture halls medical equipment and treatment rooms This is the Clinic for Internal Medicine IMED on the premises of the Saarland University Hospital Five internal medicine clinics are brought together in this distinctive building which gives the University Hospital a new face and is the hub of the entire facility With the completion of building stage 2 the building is now also a focal point for student learning The new lecture theatres urgently needed for students in the clinical semesters are now ready for use A separate entrance leads lecturers students congress and conference guests to their own stairwell with its welcoming qualities Guided by blue walls with a view of the campus they reach the foyer of the new study area which is atmospherically defined by a colourful eight metre mosaic This work by the late Homburg artist Willi Spiess composed of thousands of miniature stone platelets contrasts with the minimalist design of the lecture halls group and seminar rooms The University Hospital of the Saarland presents itself today as a highly attractive university location due to the impres sive interlocking of research teaching study and hospital interests 66
