The museum is designed as a passive house The space required to house the building s operating technology is located in the basement of the museum This avoids the need for technical installations on the roof that are visible from the outside The building which will be completed by May 2019 was opened to the public for the first time on the occasion of the Festival Weekend of the City of Regensburg on 8th and 9th June 2018 More than 30 000 visitors took the opportunity to visit the foyer of the new building and to be guided through almost two thousand years of Bavarian history with the help of one of the future main attractions of the building a 360 degree panorama video
