The German Cancer Research Centre at Dresden University Hospital is another module at the heart of the Oncology Campus which addresses a particular issue combining oncological research with preventative medicine The building is therefore designed to be open and permeable to have a repre sentative entrance and a spacious foyer offering communication places and exhibition areas It also facilitates a spatial connection to both current and future element of the campus such as the neighbouring NCT The new building of the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden is intended to be a place of encounter and creative scientific collaboration promoted by an open building structure that encourages communication Its distinctive urban location also creates a special identity The two storey structure planned for the Burlafingen primary school takes up the scale of the surrounding residential buildings with its incisions and contour lines and groups all functional areas around the centrally located assembly hall With its dominance as a building the historic boiler house creates a clear identity for the new Mannheim Campus of Heidelberg University In combination with the generous staircases the new independent buildings create a lively campus atmosphere both in ternally and externally commensurate with the scale of the existing boiler house The experiential spaces created by the varying levels of the existing topography generates potential for community and exchange primary school Burlafingen learning researching German Cancer Research Centre Dresden
